A major telecommunications company in Australia identified a need to provide some mentoring for their Executive Assistants. Emerge Consulting was approached to design and deliver the most appropriate program to provide the desired outcomes. Involvement in the program was voluntary.
Mentors and mentees were identified and Emerge helped with the pairing following a dual-prong process using an online thinking preferences assessment tool (NBI). Care was given to partner people with like-minded individuals who would add value both up and down the mentoring process.
The initial workshop introduced the pairs and provided an overview of the upcoming program. It also gave the individual participants the opportunity to express their expectations and hopes for their participation as well as set individual goals. In subsequent sessions mentors were then provided with tools to help them mentor, as well as skills for their own personal development.
Mid-way through the program, a mentee workshop was held to check progress, receive feedback, answer questions and hear special requests for the remainder of the program. Any adjustments were made in response to the workshop outcomes and the program continued.
On the final day, presentations from both groups allowed all participants to express their personal outcomes and allow others to understand the value of the program from all perspectives.
"Recently, we identified that executive assistants required a targeted training and coaching program to ensure they reached their full potential. It was recognised that the talented executive support team played a key role in the success of the business in keeping the administration processes working and allowing the executives to focus on their core business. Emerge was approached to develop and run a mentoring program for both mentors and mentees within the executive support team.
The aim of the program was to develop the confidence of mentors so they could share their experiences and mentor others but also on a personal level, understand their strengths and weaknesses so they could focus on targeted personal development. Mentees were identified to work with the mentors so there was practical training whilst the program was rolled out.
The feedback for the course and Emerge's training and coaching skills was exceptional. Mentors reported they had grown both personally and at work after participating in the program. Mentees enjoyed the development offered through them with the facilitator and also with the opportunity to work with trained and committed mentors. The participants in the program realised the impact they have on the success of the company and the responsibility they had to develop themselves and mentor others. From a business perspective, employee engagement was enhanced which resulted in the potential for better performance.
The facilitator from Emerge listened to the client's needs and developed a tailored program to meet the requirements of the business and participants. She was professional and great to deal with."
“Working with Lordien on the Executive Support Group Mentoring Program is the most fulfilling professional workshop I have ever done. It greatly increased my awareness of how I can help others by giving structure to advice and coaching to help people achieve results. What I have learned has not been limited to sharing and encouraging informal mentor/mentee relationships, but extends to my informal relationships, other colleagues/peers and my personal life. This workshop has increased my resilience immensely, reinforced what I believe about positivity, strengths, communication and people and showed me tools I can use to take that knowledge and mindset to the next level. This program has been a fantastic, relevant and vital investment in my development.”
